Allergic Shock

Allergic shock, also known as anaphylaxis, is a serious and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate medical attention. Allergic shock can be caused by exposure to various allergens, including certain foods, medications, insect bites and latex. Other triggers may include exercise, emotional stress or exposure to extreme temperatures. In rare cases, there may be no clear cause; symptoms of allergic shock can develop quickly and progress rapidly. Common symptoms include hives or swelling, difficulty breathing, wheezing, chest tightness, low blood pressure, tachycardia and loss of consciousness. In severe cases, anaphylaxis can lead to shock, organ failure and even death.
